Cloud Backup Solutions – Why should you move to online cloud storage?

It’s been a while since our last Cloud Backup blog post. We have been very busy expanding the Cloud Backup service environment with new and improved storage capabilities, bringing new users on-board, and upgrading our cloud to newer software versions with improved performance and functionality. All invisibly, in the background, and with no impact to customers.

This post was written by our man on the ground in Gauteng, who helps our customers with physical backups and restores when the size is too great to perform over internet links, or has a certain urgency. We charge a fixed fee for this service but it pays for itself in being able to store or restore data quickly and safely.

Introduction

In today’s world, data is a very important part of our lives. Making sure that this information that is within your organisation is secure and will not get destroyed overtime is very vital. Even so getting equipment to store the data locally in your office space can get very expensive and consume space. Having physical servers or hard drives to backup your information does not future-proof it against natural disasters, faults and robberies that could take place in your area. Maintaining the backups can get very tedious and it may require an assistant to checkup on the status of the backups.

Besides giving you an alternative to buying your own physical hard drives and servers, what makes using cloud storage a good idea?

Protection

One of the main reasons to backup your information to the cloud is that it’s a lot safer than using physical hard drives. Most hard drives get damaged and worn over time and this causes your data to get lost or corrupted. Cloud Backup gives you the assurance that your data will not be affected by disasters, corruption or theft. Your data will be secure on our servers and it will be available at anytime.

Moving to cloud storage can also protect you from trojans such as the newest threats of “cryptolockers” that encrypt your data on your machine and then hold them at ransom, forcing you to pay before your files are unlocked. In this case, you simply reinstall your machine and restore your data.

Cloud Backup service uses 448bit blowfish encryption on your machine to make sure that your data is encrypted before it is sent over a secure TLS connection to our cloud servers. In a future upgrade, AES 256-bit encryption will be available, adhering to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) specification for encryption which is used by the US government and is a standard for businesses worldwide.

Cost effective

Cloud Backup offers you a premium service that is a lot more cost effective and secure than buying your own hard drives. You don’t need to buy more storage space than you actually need, catering for your future requirements.  All you have to do is pay for the storage space you use, which dynamically increases on demand as your company or storage requirements grow.

With this convenience and low cost you will get your money’s worth without the danger of parting with your precious files.
